Gum Recontouring

Gum recontouring is a cosmetic dental procedure to enhance the appearance of the smile by creating an even and symmetric gum-line along with establishing proper tooth length. This procedure is also known as cosmetic crown lengthening. This procedure requires the removal of soft tissue (gum tissue), hard tissue (bone), or both to achieve the desired results. In some very simple cases this can be completed in one visit utilizing the Waterlaser. Most cases, however, involve a more involved technique where the bone that supports the gum tissue is re-contoured to achieve the desired results. This procedure is very popular for treating a “gummy smile”. Cosmetic dental crowns or veneers are often combined with gum recontouring to provide an overall smile makeover.
